Dumunpalit Island in Palawan - Philippines
Dumunpalit is a Cuyunin word (a local Palawan language) which means a place that never changes. From a birds eye view, the beautiful Dumunpalit Island looks like a green turtle that swims through the current. Because the island is part of the Marine Protection Zone, its beautiful coral reefs are very much preserved.
Dumunpalit Island is situated in the northern area of Palawan. It is near an exclusive and expensive island resort, Club Paradise. The island can be reached through bancas or small boats and would take a five to six hour trip. It is possible to see dolphins tagging along with the boat as it cut through the waves of the deep blue ocean. Divers who want to camp overnight in Dumunpalit Island have to put forward a request seven days before the visit since the islands occupants are only the guards and they strictly follow the procedure. The average cost of staying overnight in the island is around 55 US dollars.
The dive site has a gentle sloping area from the islands shore to 80 feet deep. The expected views in the site are the soft pink corals and as one move deeper to the 80 feet slope, divers would see sandy flooring with colorful coral heads.
Dumunpalit Island is a fascinating island with red, blue and pink coral reefs, astonishing limestone and symmetrically formed cliffs that rise out of the clear turquoise sea. It also has a long white sand beach line. The island is estimated to be 30 hectares. In the eastern part of the island, the large beach with coconut palms can be seen. The beach stretches out up to 2000 feet long with pure white sand. Most part of the island is covered with green vegetation. The coral reefs encircling the island are remarkably beautiful that it is considered as one of the most wonderful snorkeling sites in the Philippines.
