Electricity in Palawan - Philippines
Most of the places in Palawan have stable electricity that allows residents and tourists to enjoy normal living conditions and complete tasks that require the use of electric currents. For those who are not fully aware of what electricity is like in Palawan, it is best to note that there are differences compared to other areas within Luzon. Especially for tourists, the steady stream of electricity in the Greater Manila Area or in other provinces may not be present in Palawan.
In the middle of the year 2005, the Philippine government, under the administration of President Macapagal Arroyo, has participated in the ceremonial switching on of the electricity in 35 of the far-flung areas in the province of Palawan. The project was conducted with the participation of KEPCO Philippines Corp. The primary goal of the project is to provide the primary stakeholders, the residents, with access to electricity. With the project, the tourism of Palawan is also improved through lower costs of living.
As of the present, there are areas which enjoy a 24-hour supply of electricity, especially the urban areas, while there are still towns which have power schedules depending on the activities of the people. The main provider of power supply in the province is the National Power Corporation and distributed by the Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO) and Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative (BISELCO). There are also different sources of electricity in the province such as solar energy or electricity generated through a generator. The alternate sources of energy, aside from the ones from PALECO and BISELCO, are used during the times when the power supply has been shut off according to the time assigned. Most of the accommodations provided for the tourists who visit the island are supplied with power through generators especially for the hours where electricity is not available through the power distributor.
However, the insufficiency of power supply in the province does not discourage tourists from visiting Palawan. The actors of the provinces tourism sector have found ways, such as the alternative sources of energy mentioned above, in order for their industry to continuously boom. Likewise, the tranquility and simplicity of the life in Palawan, with or without attracts more tourists to go there for a peaceful vacation. Likewise, the tourist spots and the picturesque view of the island easily covers the downside of not having a 24-hour supply and even adds to the rural experience especially for those who have always been in the Metro.
