RTN Hospital in Palawan - Philippines
Financial sourcing would be the least of priorities of the RTN Hospital management and staff. Among the 25 health care facilities in Palawan, the RTN Hospital receives funding from the Rio Tuba Nickel (RTN) Foundation, Incorporated. The foundation stands as the social development arm of the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) and the Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC), a joint venture with Japanese investors Sumitomo Metal Mining, Mitsui and Company. and Sojitz Corporation. Two of the foundation's major social welfare and development programs are the primary hospital and the Leonides S. Virata Memorial School (LSVMS), an elementary-secondary school in the municipality.
Medical and dental services at the RTN Hospital are free for indigent residents of 11 barangays. The hospital provides the ambulance and communication equipment necessary for emergency medical operations within the municipality. Its medical staff also conducts medical outreach programs on a regular basis. The R.T.N. Foundation Inc. Hospital or RTN Hospital lies at the Nickel Avenue, Rio Tuba, Batazara, Palawan. Dr. Nicanor N. Funelas, the medical director, and Dr. Dionicito B. Gutierrez, the administrator, can be reached through telephone numbers 63-48-750-2289 and 63-48-433-2652.
Inquiries about the former Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation Hospital can also be channeled through mobile number 63-0917-575-0134 or through 632-892-1006 to 10, the foundation's main office lines. RTN Hospital's sponsor holds administrative offices at the second floor of the BMMC Building in 143 De La Rosa corner Adelantado Streets, Legaspi Village, Makati City. RTN Hospital management and staff can also accept questions through firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com.
The 20-bed capacity hospital was primarily established to address the health care needs of the mining company's close to 400 regular employees and over 300 casual and contractual employees. The provision of medical care services, facilities, and equipment continues since the hospital program began in 1991. RTNMC management will soon expand their corporate information system network by including the LSVMS and the RTN hospital. The services of NewGen IT Corporation were contracted for the network expansion through wireless broadband connectivity. The mining site office was previously linked to the main office in Makati through a VSAT satellite.
Aside from upgrading the equipment and facilities, the RTN hospital also offers an attractive compensation package for its medical staff. The compensation package includes a base pay and professional fee, free board and lodging, and a bonus of at least two months pay per/year. Improvement of manpower capabilities are part of the plan to elevate the classification of the facility from a primary to a secondary hospital. A complete hospital upgrade will cover the same period that the nickel processing plant is expected to operate. The Sumitomo Metal Mining completed the construction of the approximately $180 million plant at the end of August 2004.
